introduction:The Wachowskis are the writers and directors of the 1999 science fiction action movie The Matrix With Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, and Joe Pantoliano in the lead roles, it is the first film in the Matrix film series. Set in a dystopian future, humanity is unwittingly imprisoned inside the Matrix, a virtual world that intelligent machines have created to divert people's attention while using their bodies as a source of energy. After discovering the truth, computer programmer Thomas Anderson—a hacker going by the name "Neo"—joins other Matrix escapees in a revolt against the machines.
Science fiction's cyberpunk subgenre is exemplified by The Matrix. The Matrix film series, some other Hollywood action films, Plato's Cave, 90s Telnet hacker communities, and anime and martial arts films were the sources of inspiration for the Wachowskis' approach to action scenes. The Wachowskis also borrowed fight choreographers and wire fu techniques from Hong Kong action cinema. Terminologies like "red pill" and "bullet time," which depict characters' enhanced perception by having action in a shot move slowly while the camera appears to move through the scene at normal speed, allowing characters' accelerated movements to be perceived normally, were made popular by the movie.Along with these many awards, the movie won Best Sound and Best Special Visual Effects at the 53rd British Academy Film Awards, and Best Director and Best Science Fiction Film at the 26th Saturn Awards went to the Wachowskis. This movie is regarded as one of the best science fiction movies ever made. In 2012, the Library of Congress chose it for preservation in the US National Film Registry on the grounds that it was "culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant."In
Due to the movie's popularity, the Wachowskis wrote and directed two feature-length sequels, The Matrix Revolutions and The Matrix Reloaded, which were released in 2003. The Wachowskis were heavily involved in the animated anthology film The Animatrix, as well as comic books and video games that further extended the Matrix franchise. Books and theories elaborating on some of the theological and philosophical concepts hinted at in the films have also been inspired by the franchise. Plot:
A police team confronts Trinity at an abandoned hotel, but she overcomes them with superhuman strength. Police and a group of suited Agents with similar superhuman abilities follow her as she runs. She disappears after picking up a ringing public phone.
Online, "The Matrix" keeps coming up, confounding computer programmer Thomas Anderson (hacker, also known as "Neo"). Neo's questions are answered, according to a man named Morpheus, whom Trinity informs him about. Agent Smith leads a group of agents and policemen who show up at Neo's place of employment to look for him. Despite Morpheus' best efforts to lead Neo to safety, Neo gives up rather than take a chance on a perilous escape.
Neo's criminal record will be expunged if he assists the Agents in finding Morpheus, who they identify as a terrorist. Neo is pinned down, his mouth is fused shut, and a robotic "bug" is implanted in his abdomen when he refuses to comply. After what he thinks is a nightmare, Neo awakens. Shortly after, Trinity brings Neo to meet Morpheus, and she takes out the bug from Neo.
Neo is given a choice by Morpheus between two pills: blue, which will cause Neo to lose all memory and go back to his previous life, and red, which will reveal the truth about the Matrix. After taking the red pill, Neo experiences a distortion of reality and awakens in a liquid-filled pod surrounded by innumerable other pods that contain other people. Then, he is taken aboard the Nebuchadnezzar, Morpheus's flying vessel. Morpheus describes the scenario as Neo heals from a lifetime of inactivity in the pod: Humanity and sentient robots were at war in the early 21st century. The machines retaliated against humans for preventing them from accessing solar energy by enslaving people and using their bioelectric power to power their shared virtual reality, the Matrix, which was based on the world as it existed in 1999. The surviving free humans sought safety in the underground city of Zion in the years that followed.
A group of rebels led by Morpheus and his gang break into the Matrix in order to recruit and "unplug" enslaved people. Because they are aware of the Matrix's simulation nature, they are able to circumvent its physical rules. Morpheus informs Neo that while rebels are eliminated by machines known as Sentinels in the real world, Agents are sentient programs that eliminate threats to the system. Neo is also warned that death within the Matrix also kills the physical body. Neo's skill in virtual training solidifies Morpheus's conviction that Neo is "the One," a person meant to set humanity free. The group goes inside the Matrix to see the Oracle, a program that resembles a prophet, and foresaw the coming of the One. The Agents interrogate Morpheus to learn his access codes to the mainframe computer in Zion, which would allow them to destroy it. Neo resolves to return to the Matrix to rescue Morpheus, as the Oracle prophesied; Trinity insists she accompany him. While rescuing Morpheus, Neo gains confidence in his abilities, performing feats comparable to those of the Agents.
After Morpheus and Trinity safely exit the Matrix, Smith ambushes and appears to kill Neo. While a group of Sentinels attack the Nebuchadnezzar, Trinity confesses her love for Neo and says the Oracle told her she would fall in love with the One.
After being resurrected, Neo gains the ability to see and manipulate the Matrix. He easily defeats Smith, which causes the other Agents to run, and he exits the Matrix just before the electromagnetic pulse from the ship disables the Sentinels. Neo calls the machines back in the Matrix, telling them he will show their inmates "a world where anything is possible." He ends the call and takes off.

Filming:
The majority of the scenes were shot at Sydney's Fox Studios and in the city itself; however, to keep the impression of a generic American city, notable landmarks were omitted. New South Wales became a significant hub for film production as a result of the filming. Principal photography lasted 118 days, with filming starting in March 1998 and ending in August of the same year.
Some of the action scenes had to be postponed until after Reeves fully recovered from his neck injury (see above). Thus, the filming started with scenes that didn't need a lot of physical effort, like the one in Thomas Anderson's office, the one in the interrogation room, or the one in which Neo is driven to see the Oracle. The Sydney fountain at Martin Place, which sits halfway between the Colonial Building next door, and the Colonial Building itself served as the setting for these scenes. In case the bullet time method did not work, the team recorded additional footage of Neo dodging bullets during the rooftop scene of a government building. Filmed on the roof of the Symantec Corporation building in Kent Street, across from Sussex Street, was the bullet-time fight scene.
Moss executed all of the wire stunts and the shots with Trinity at the start of the movie by herself. Because of the thematic similarities between Dark City and Trinity, remarks have been made about the rooftop set that Trinity uses early in the movie to escape from Agent Brown, which was left over from that movie's production. Moss hurt her leg during the lobby scene rehearsal, which from filming the scene in one take. Trinity runs on a wall in that scene.
She claimed that at the time, she was under a great deal of pressure and was shocked to learn that she wouldn't be able to complete the task.
Afterward, Fishburne claimed that he felt racist and that Sydney reminded him of 1950s America while he was there filming the movie.
The dojo set was constructed much in advance of the actual filming. The actors suffered bruises as a result of heavy physical contact during the filming of these action scenes. The scene was rescheduled because of Reeves's injury and lack of wire training before filming, which prevented him from performing the triple kicks in a way that satisfied him and made him feel bad about himself.
A few days later, the scene was successfully shot, requiring just three takes from Reeves. In the scene's final scene, Yuen changed the choreography and forced the actors to pull their punches, giving the performance a sense of training.
The sequence had to be filmed on a set due to the intricacy of the fight and the associated wire work, even though the filmmakers had originally intended to film it in a real subway station. Real train tracks were present in the train storage facility around which the set was constructed. Chad Stahelski, Reeves's stunt double, suffered multiple injuries during filming, including broken ribs, knees, and a dislocated shoulder when Neo slammed Smith into the ceiling.
During a scene where Neo crashed into a booth, a hydraulic puller injured another stuntman The office building where Smith questioned Morpheus was a sizable set with a three-story-tall cyclorama that overlooked the exterior. The tilting mechanism of the full-scale, lightweight mock-up helicopter was affixed to the studio roof beams and was suspended by a wire rope. A real minigun was side-mounted on the helicopter and was programmed to fire at half of its normal rate of 3,000 rounds per minute.
Reeves shed fifteen pounds and completely shaved his body in order to give Neo an emaciated appearance for the scene in which he awakens in a pod. The main photography ended with the scene where Neo fell into the sewer system A number of brief action sequences and at least one filmed scene were left out of the final cut of the movie, according to The Art of the Matrix.
Release Date:
On September 21, 1999, Warner Home Video released The Matrix on DVD and Laserdisc in the US with its original aspect ratio of 2.39:1, and ERA Home Entertainment released it in Hong Kong with an aspect ratio of 1.33:1. On December 7, 1999, it was also made available on VHS in both full-screen and widescreen configurations. It was the first DVD to sell over a million copies in the United States after it was released on DVD. The movie went on to become the first to sell over three million copies in the United States by the year 2000. That made it the best-selling DVD release ever at that point, a record it held for a few months until Gladiator overtook it. In Thirty million copies of The Matrix DVD had been sold by November 10, 2003, a month after the release of The Matrix Reloaded. Then, on November 29, 1999, it made its UK debut on VHS and DVD. In just two weeks, The Matrix broke Armageddon's record to become the best-selling DVD title in the nation with sales of over 107,000 copies. The Ultimate Matrix Collection was made available on Blu-ray on October 14, 2008, and HD DVD on May 22, 2007(On March 31, 2009, ten years to the day after its theatrical debut, the movie was also made available independently as a 10th anniversary. edition Blu-ray in Digibook format. The movie and its two sequels were released on DVD as The Complete Matrix Trilogy in 2010. On May 22, 2018, it was also made available on 4K HDR Blu-ray. October 30, 2018, saw the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of the movie, which is a part of The Matrix Trilogy.
